Pay Attention to Package Sizes! Many food companies are now downsizing their package sizes to offset increased ingredient and transportation costs. So, be mindful of this when you are purchasing and comparing prices of products. For example, to offset the rising costs of wheat and other commodities, some cereal boxes, such as Cheerios and Apple Jacks, have been reduced in size. To offset rising dairy prices, some ice creams that were once 1.75 quarts are now 1.5 quarts. Many other products have been reduced in size, such as snack foods, cat food, orange juice, soap, and cookies. I have noticed it in subtleties, usually just by an ounce or two. So, when shopping, pay careful attention to the unit price, or price per ounce rather than the price per package. And, look at your favorite brands...they may not be what they used to be in terms of size. February, 2012There are no blog entries for February. |
